PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature. The PubMed database contains more than 36 million citations and abstracts but does not include full text journal articles. Links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC). This information is further detailed on the PubMed information page.

To access the full text of an article, click on the options displayed under “Full text links” in the PubMed record.

Generally, you'll be redirected to the publisher's platform. If you haven't already logged in through our institution, look out for the OpenAthens or Institutional login option. Here are some examples:

After selecting the institutional login option, search for The University of Sydney Library when asked to “Find your organisation/institution”, then follow the prompts to sign in with your university credentials.

If the article is available through the Library’s subscription, you will have full text access. You will only need to authenticate once using your university credentials during a single browser session to access Library electronic resources for the next 8 hours. To find out what resources are available via the Library, please refer to our Library Catalogue.
